Planning a Strategic Retreat

strategic retreatPlanning a Strategic Retreat in today’s fast-paced business world means taking a break from the daily grind to recharge and refocus. Many successful entrepreneurs and business owners find that stepping away from their work for a short period of time can actually increase their productivity and creativity. In fact, taking a vacation or planning a strategic retreat can be a smart business move. In this case, Katie and I have decided to take a 10-day Eastern Caribbean cruise to not only relax and recharge, but also to do some strategic business planning for our next ventures. Of course, the rest of the Emptylegs team will be available for any air charter needs or request while we travel. At first we considered an Eastern Caribbean island hopping yacht charter, but we sailed last year on the Celebrity Summit, and we remembered what a great trip we had during my birthday celebration. We searched and found a great cruise on the only Cruise Line we will sail, Celebrity Cruises, and decided to add more points to our Captains Club balance booking the trip. We chose the 10 day Eastern Caribbean Cruise aboard the Celebrity Silhouette because it includes some of our favorite private jet travel islands, which will allow us to mix business with pleasure. 

As we look forward to embarkation day for our cruise, we couldn’t help but feel excited about sailing with Celebrity Cruises once again. When we had previously sailed with them we had incredible experiences, and we knew that this time would be no different. Here are a few reasons why we decided to sail with Celebrity again, and why we chose the Celebrity Silhouette for this trip:

Firstly, we were impressed by the exceptional service that we received on our previous Celebrity cruise. The staff were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure that our trip was unforgettable. From the moment we boarded the ship to the day we disembarked, we were treated like VIPs. 

Secondly, we loved the amenities and activities that Celebrity offers on their ships. The Celebrity Silhouette, chosen for this trip, has a variety of dining options, including a main dining room, a buffet, and several specialty restaurants. The ship also features several bars and lounges, a theater, a casino, a spa, and a fitness center. We know that we will never run out of things to do on this ship. 

Thirdly, we chose the Celebrity Silhouette this time because of its itinerary and the ports of call that it will visit. We are excited to visit Puerto Plata Dominican Republic, as well as several other stunning destinations in the Eastern Caribbean, including San Juan Puerto Rico,  St. Croix USVI, St. Johns Antigua, Basseterre, St. Kitts, Nevis, and Philipsburg St. Maarten We know that each stop on our itinerary will offer unique experiences and opportunities to explore the local culture and make future travel plans. We are also very confident that Celebrity Cruises and the Celebrity Silhouette will provide us with an unforgettable vacation experience, and as we plan our journey, we know that we have made the right choice.

Finally, we also follow the CEO of Celebrity Cruises, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo. She has held this position since December 2014 and was the first woman to serve as CEO of a major cruise line. Lisa has been with Celebrity Cruises for over 30 years and has held various leadership positions within the company. Under her leadership, the company has introduced several new ships and embarked on a multi-year initiative to modernize its fleet. She has overseen the implementation of a number of initiatives to reduce the company’s environmental impact, such as using more energy-efficient technologies and reducing waste and emissions. She has also championed initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion within the company and the cruise industry as a whole. As I’ve written before that my wife Katherine Koch shares these values as do I. Most of you know that Katie Chairs the Florida Gold Coast Chapter of the 99s. The Ninety-Nines, Inc., also known as the 99s, is an international organization of women pilots. It was founded in 1929 by 99 women pilots, including Amelia Earhart, to promote aviation and provide networking and support for women in the field. The organization is open to women pilots from all over the world and currently has over 5,000 members in 44 countries. The 99s provide scholarships, flight training opportunities, and support for women pursuing careers in aviation. They also promote aviation education and encourage young women to become interested in aviation and aerospace careers. In addition to their work in promoting aviation, the 99s also participate in air races, aviation competitions, and other aviation-related events. They have a long history of supporting women in aviation and have been instrumental in breaking down barriers and increasing opportunities for women in the field.

Miami Grand Prix

The Miami Grand Prix is a Formula One (F1) race that is set to take place again in Miami, Florida, USA. The race had been in the works since 2018, and after several delays, it is currently scheduled to make its return in May 2023. The Miami Grand Prix will take place on a circuit that has been designed specifically for the event. The track is a 5.41 km (3.36 miles) long street circuit that will run through the streets of Miami Gardens, a suburb of Miami. The circuit has 19 turns and is one of the fastest street circuits in the world, with an average speed of around 223 km/h (138 mph).

Formula One, or F1 racing, is a type of open-wheel car racing that involves highly specialized, high-performance single-seater race cars. F1 is widely regarded as the pinnacle of motorsport and is the most prestigious racing series in the world. The F1 World Championship, which is organized by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), is contested by teams representing different countries and car manufacturers. F1 races are held on a variety of circuits, including permanent race tracks, street circuits, and hybrid tracks that incorporate elements of both. The races are typically around 300 km in length and last between 1.5 and 2 hours. The driver who completes the race in the shortest amount of time is declared the winner.

F1 cars are designed to be the fastest and most technologically advanced racing cars in the world. They are powered by high-performance V6 turbo hybrid engines that can produce over 1,000 horsepower. The cars are constructed using lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, and they feature advanced aerodynamic designs to maximize downforce and minimize drag. F1 teams are composed of two drivers who compete against each other and the other teams in a series of races held throughout the year. The teams are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining their cars, and they work to develop new technologies and strategies to gain a competitive advantage.

F1 racing is known for its speed, precision, and excitement. The sport attracts a global audience of millions of fans who follow the races both on TV and live at the circuits. F1 is also a major contributor to the automotive industry, with many of the technologies developed for F1 cars finding their way into commercial vehicles. racing is a highly competitive and technologically advanced sport that showcases the skills and abilities of the best drivers and teams in the world.

F1 Racing Teams

There have been many successful Formula 1 racing teams over the years, but some of the most successful and highly regarded teams in the sport’s history include:

  1. Scuderia Ferrari – Ferrari is the oldest and most successful team in F1 history, with 16 Constructors’ Championships and 15 Drivers’ Championships.
  2. Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team – Mercedes has dominated F1 in recent years, winning seven consecutive Constructors’ Championships and Drivers’ Championships between 2014 and 2020.
  3. Red Bull Racing – Red Bull has also been highly successful in recent years, winning four Constructors’ Championships and four Drivers’ Championships between 2010 and 2013.
  4. McLaren – McLaren is one of the most successful teams in F1 history, with eight Constructors’ Championships and 12 Drivers’ Championships.
  5. Williams – Williams has won nine Constructors’ Championships and seven Drivers’ Championships, but has struggled in recent years.

These teams have a long history in F1 and have achieved significant success, but there are also many other teams that have had their moments of glory and continue to compete at the highest level of motorsport. Ultimately, success in F1 depends on a range of factors, including driver talent, team strategy, and technological innovation, and there is always the potential for new teams to emerge and challenge the established order.

Hard Rock Stadium

The Miami Grand Prix has faced some opposition from local residents who have raised concerns about the noise, traffic, and disruption that the event could cause. However, the organizers have worked to address these concerns by implementing measures such as noise barriers, traffic management plans, and community engagement initiatives. The Miami Grand Prix is brings significant economic benefits to the local area, with estimates suggesting that it could generate up to $400 million in economic impact for the region. The race is also seen as a major opportunity for F1 to expand its presence in the United States, which is a key market for the sport.

Organizers of this year’s race on May 5-7, 2023, have announced an increase of 3,000 grandstand seats, bringing the total number to 56,000, following the success of last year’s sell-out event. The demand for marquee features from 2022, such as The Yacht Club at the MIA Marina and the Hard Rock Beach Club, has prompted expansion. Additionally, 61 new hospitality suites and two luxury club spaces, The Vista at Turn 1 and The Boathouse at MIA Marina, have been added. A new permanent Formula 1® Paddock Club building, which spans multiple levels and offers unparalleled views of the pitlane and start/finish straight, will also be introduced for 2023. The building will be located alongside Hard Rock Stadium and will feature luxury hospitality spaces and exquisite catering provided by DO & CO.

May 2023

The Kentucky Derby, May 6th, is an annual horse race held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. The race is known for its glitz and glamour, with attendees dressed in their finest attire and celebrities mingling with racing teams and fans. The Monaco Grand Prix is a symbol of wealth, glamour, and speed, and is a testament to the enduring appeal of motorsports. It is a beloved event for racing fans and casual observers alike, and continues to captivate audiences year after year.

The French Open, May 28th-June 11th, also known as Roland Garros, is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments and is held annually in Paris, France. It is usually held in late May and early June and lasts for two weeks. The tournament is played on clay courts, which are generally considered to be the slowest surface in tennis. This makes the French Open a unique and challenging tournament, as players need to adapt their game to the slower surface and the high bounce of the balls. Some of the greatest players in the sport have won the US Open, including Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Ben Hogan.One of the unique aspects of the US Open Golf tournament is the way it is conducted.

The race typically covers about 2,400 miles over four days, and features teams of two or three women pilots flying single-engine planes. The race was initially called the Women’s Air Derby and was created by Amelia Earhart and other female pilots to promote women’s aviation and demonstrate the skill and capability of women pilots. The first race began on August 18, 1929, and was won by Louise Thaden and Blanche Noyes. 

The Air Race Classic has since become a prestigious aviation competition that draws participants from all over the world. The first private jet produced by Cessna was the Cessna Citation 500, also known as the Cessna Citation I. It was developed in the late 1960s by Clyde Cessna and first flew on September 15, 1969. The Citation 500 was a revolutionary aircraft in the business aviation industry, as it was the first light jet to be powered by turbofan engines, which provided greater speed and efficiency compared to the earlier turbojet engines used in other business jets. The Citation 500 was also designed to be easy to operate and maintain, with a spacious and comfortable cabin that could accommodate up to six passengers. The success of the Citation 500 paved the way for the development of a series of successful Cessna Citation models that continue to be produced today.

The Cessna Citation 500

Clyde V. Cessna

Clyde CessnaCessna Aircraft Company was founded by Clyde Cessna in 1927. Clyde Cessna was an aviation pioneer and one of the early manufacturers of airplanes in the United States. He began his career as a barnstormer and then moved on to designing and building his own aircraft. In 1911, he built and flew his first airplane, the Silverwing. After several successful aviation ventures, Clyde Cessna founded the Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, along with his nephews Dwane Wallace and Dwight Wallace. Today, Cessna is a well-known manufacturer of general aviation aircraft, and its planes are used for a variety of purposes, including personal and business travel, flight training, and agricultural applications. Cessna (now a subsidiary of Textron Aviation) produces a range of business jets, including the Citation series. The exact number of Cessna jets used for private aviation is difficult to determine, as it can vary from year to year and also depend on factors such as geography, market demand, and the overall economy. However, it’s safe to say that Cessna business jets are widely used in private aviation, as they are known for their reliability, efficiency, and comfort. The first private jet flight

The first private jet flight took place on May 18, 1958, in the United States. The aircraft was the Learjet 23, designed and built by William P. Lear, an American inventor, engineer, and entrepreneur born on June 26, 1902, in Hannibal, Missouri. He is best known for founding the Learjet Corporation, which revolutionized the private jet industry. Lear had a long and varied career, with interests in several different fields. He worked in radio and electronics in the 1920s and 1930s, and during World War II, he designed and manufactured the Lear Autofocus, an early automatic aircraft landing system. He later founded the Lear, Inc. company, which produced a range of electronic products, including car radios and aircraft navigational systems. In the 1950s, Lear turned his attention to aviation and began work on a small, high-performance business jet that could be flown by a single pilot. This led to the development of the Learjet 23, which made its first flight in 1963 and became the first successful private jet aircraft. Lear’s contributions to the aviation industry were recognized with numerous awards and honors, including induction into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1981. He passed away on May 14, 1978, at the age of 75, but his legacy lived on through the Learjet Corporation’s growth and his many contributions to the fields of electronics and aviation.

The first Learjet model, the Learjet 23, was introduced in 1964 and quickly became a popular choice for business and private aviation. The Learjet 23 was a small, sleek jet that could carry up to six passengers and two crew members, with a top speed of 561 mph and a range of 2,350 miles. The first flight of the Learjet 23 was piloted by test pilot Hank Beaird, who took off from Wichita, Kansas, and flew the aircraft to Grant County Airport in Indiana. The flight covered a distance of 771 miles in just over an hour, marking a significant milestone in aviation history. The Learjet 23 was a game-changer in the aviation industry, introducing the concept of private jet travel and paving the way for the development of other private jet models. Over the years, the company developed and produced several other models of private jets, including the Learjet 24, Learjet 25, Learjet 28/29, Learjet 31/35, Learjet 45, Learjet 60, and Learjet 70/75.  The company was also known for introducing several innovations in private jet design, such as the use of advanced avionics and composite materials. In 1990, the Learjet company was acquired by Bombardier Aerospace, a Canadian aircraft manufacturer, and became a part of Bombardier’s business aircraft division. Unfortunately for fans of the fast Learjets, Bombardier announced on February 11, 2021, that it would cease production of Learjet aircraft. This decision was made as part of Bombardier’s restructuring plan to focus on its more profitable business aircraft models, such as the Global and Challenger series. The last Learjet model produced by Bombardier was the Learjet 75 Liberty, which was built in limited numbers in 2021. As of now, there are no plans for Bombardier to resume production of Learjet aircraft.

Today, private jets are used by individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide for a variety of purposes, including business travel, medical transportation, and luxury leisure travel. It is difficult to provide an exact number of Learjets that are still actively flying as private jets since the information is not publicly available. However, according to the latest data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, as of December 2021, there were 1,782 Learjet aircraft registered in the US. This includes all models of Learjet aircraft, both active and inactive. Many Learjet aircraft have been in service for several decades, and their owners and operators have invested in maintenance and upgrades to keep them airworthy and up-to-date with modern avionics and safety features. While the number of active Learjets may have decreased over time as newer models have been introduced, many of these iconic private jets remain in service and continue to be a popular choice for business and private aviation.

The Big Game in Two Weeks

big game The Big Game in two weeks is all set. What a great and not so great weekend of football. I can’t believe the meltdown San Francisco had at the QB position. Honestly, being a NY Giant and Miami fan I have become use to lackluster play at that position, but to watch San Fran’s QB not play due to what seemed to be a non existing elbow issue was a bit much. Then to see Patrick Mahomes limp and wince in pain all game and then make a final big run in the closing minutes to set his team up to win on that last field goal drove home who really wanted to win. Well its all ready to be an epic game in Glendale, Arizona on February 12th, and the flight request are coming in. They will be hard to find, but if you want to go bad enough, and there is a private jet flight out there for you, we will secure it. I also thought this week might be a good time to take a look at the venue and local vibe for those lucky enough to go to the big game in Arizona. 

The Stadium for The Big Game

This years event is at  the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona which is the home of the Arizona Cardinals and the annual Fiesta Bowl. The stadium design includes the first of its kind retractable natural grass playing surface in North America and the first completely retractable roof operating at an incline. Flying into Glendale Municipal (KGEU) will place you just 5 miles west of downtown Glendale. Scenic mountains to the south provide the backdrop for aircraft arrivals and departures. They have a beautifully designed two-story, a 22,000 square-foot terminal and a FAA controlled tower, and complete airport service for general aviation and private jet traffic.

Things To Do Nearby –

Westgate Entertainment District, 6770 N Sunset Blvd, Glendale, AZ. Sprawling shopping complex with restaurants and live music on weekends. Usually jammed packed with football fans during this weekend. There’s a great number of restaurants from national chains to fine dining here. Sahuaro Ranch Park, 9802 North 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ. Wander through the many historic buildings, gardens, orchards, and groves with peacocks and all types of other birds. Historic Downtown District Glendale. Many shops and restaurants plus a great place to seek out antiques. And finally, golfing, golfing, and more golfing. There are way too many courses to list here, one better than the next, but let’s at least mention The Legend at Arrowhead, if not for anything else than the pure vistas and nearby mountain ranges. It’s an award winning Arnold Palmer-designed championship course. There is delicious dining after a quick 9 or an all out 18 hole day with an array of amenities and superb services.
